CHEXX for the iPad is an unique new board game for two players.
The goal of the game it to destroy the opposing players king. This is done in one of two ways; a traditional taking by jumping the king or by firing an energy beam into the king. Certain pieces in the game can refract or reflect energy beams.
Gameplay involves a player positioning their pieces around the board to build a beam path that will destroy the opposing king when fired. Game tactics can change quickly, simply by rotating a piece, beam paths can radically change leaving pieces exposed to attack.
This game offers an exciting blend of Chess like strategy with the visual piazza expected of an iPad game.
The CHEXX design has a steampunk feel which adds to the mood of the already intriguing gameplay.
CHEXX was entirely created by independent iOS developer Chris Samuels, a Kiwi (New Zealander) now living in the West Midlands of the United Kingdom. The game had been kicking around in Chris's head for at least 10 years, after a couple of false starts developing it in Java, as an at home project, Chris finally committed to writing CHEXX for the iPad when he quit his job to work on iOS apps full time.
More details on the gameplay can be found on the rules page.
